Quels voyageurs quelles sont les questions qui nous sont le plus souvent posées ?
31: Algeria, Benin, Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Eswatini, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Réunion, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia. The same list is on the plan card under "Where this eSIM works". Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
No. Botswana is sold as its own KnowRoaming plan, added to the same eSIM in the app. Zimbabwe and Namibia are not on the Africa plan and not currently sold as separate destinations, so plan those legs without data. Victoria Falls from the Zambian side, at Livingstone, is covered.
Yes. Keep data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line, give the phone a minute after the crossing, and it joins the local partner network on its own. If it doesn't, airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again forces a fresh search.
In nine of the 31 countries: South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria, Uganda, Algeria, Mauritius, Réunion, and Seychelles. Everywhere else the plan runs on 4G LTE. If the phone hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
In the camps and lodges near towns, often; deep in the reserves, rarely, on any network. The parks are built to be off-grid. Download maps, permits, and bookings before you go in, and expect the phone to be a camera until you're back on the main road.
Africa plans come with a set amount of data, and you can top up in the app if it runs low. The price depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying; every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
Long stretches have none, on any network. Capitals, resort coasts, and the main roads between them are well served, but game reserves, the Sahara, the Rift Valley lakes, and the mountains go without signal for long stretches. Lodges have Wi-Fi in the bar and rarely in the tent.
Twelve: Botswana, Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Congo, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Mayotte, Sierra Leone, and Togo. Each is sold as its own plan; add the country's plan to the same eSIM for that leg.
Africa eSIM for safaris, city stops, and border crossings in 31 countries
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

An Africa eSIM that crosses borders with you is the point of this plan. A trip that crosses a border used to mean a new SIM, a new registration form, and a new queue in every country. The Africa plan puts 31 countries on one eSIM: Cape Town to Nairobi, Marrakech to Cairo, Dakar to Lagos, with the phone switching networks by itself each time you cross. Add it at home, on Wi-Fi, and it's live the moment you land in the first of them.
Below: how the Africa plan works, how to set it up before you fly, exactly which countries it covers and which it doesn't, and what to expect from coverage between the cities and out on safari.
African itineraries change, and most travel eSIMs make you start over every time they do. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, then add a plan per trip: one country when you're staying put, the Africa plan when the route crosses borders, and whatever comes next after that. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in any country on the plan, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Africa plans come with a set amount of data, so choose the size that fits the trip. If it runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM. Hotspot works on every plan; a laptop or a travel partner's phone shares the same eSIM data.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Africa plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Africa plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap is in how to add your plan, start to finish, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia.
West Africa: Benin, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal.
Central Africa: Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Gabon.
East Africa: Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean: Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Réunion, Seychelles, South Africa, and Zambia.
That's 31 countries on one plan with one data balance. The full list is also on the plan card above, under "Where this eSIM works"; check it against your route before you buy.
Twelve KnowRoaming destinations in Africa are sold as their own plans and are not on this one: Botswana, Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Congo, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Mayotte, Sierra Leone, and Togo. Add the country's own plan to the same eSIM for that leg; it takes about a minute in the app.
Namibia and Zimbabwe are not on the Africa plan and, as of this writing, not sold as separate destinations either, so a Namibian road trip or the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls is a leg without data. The Zambian side, at Livingstone, is covered. Read crossing into a border country your plan doesn't include before a route that crosses into a country the plan doesn't include.
The plan switches networks by itself as you cross: Johannesburg to Maputo, Nairobi to Arusha on the shuttle, Kampala to Kigali, Cairo to the Red Sea and on into the Sinai. There is nothing to change in the app at the border between Kenya and Tanzania or Zambia and Malawi, and the days keep counting from the first time you connected, wherever that was.
Two habits make it painless. Keep data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line the whole trip, since that is the one setting the app can't change for you, and give the phone a minute after each crossing; if it hasn't found the new network, airplane mode on and off forces a fresh search.
Payment habits change at every border. Cards work in the capitals, the resort coasts, and most lodges; mobile money runs daily life in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, and Uganda but usually needs a local number and account, so visitors pay by card and carry cash instead; and in much of West and Central Africa cash is the only option outside the big hotels.
The practical consequences for the phone: keep bank apps working on data for card approvals, save eVisa and entry confirmations offline for the airport queue, and expect to use the plan's hotspot when the lodge's Wi-Fi reaches the bar but not the room.
In every country your Africa eSIM connects to a local partner network, with 5G in nine of the 31 (South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria, Uganda, Algeria, Mauritius, Réunion, and Seychelles) and 4G LTE in the rest. Once the plan is on, your phone picks the network automatically, from Morocco to South Africa; there is nothing to choose by hand.
Coverage is a city and highway story. Capitals, resort coasts, and the main roads between them are well served; game reserves, the Sahara, the Rift Valley lakes, and the mountains have long stretches with no signal on any network. Lodges have Wi-Fi in the bar and rarely in the tent. Download offline maps, save bookings and permits, carry a power bank, and treat safari days in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia as offline.
Most current iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Pixel phones support eSIM. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, the same check shows you where to look.
Keep your home number too
Adding an Africa plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
One plan. No roaming surprises. Live the moment you land.
For Africa the alternatives are a home-carrier roaming rate that is often not offered at all, a local SIM in each country with registration paperwork at each border, or lodge Wi-Fi that works in the bar and nowhere else. An Africa plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and one plan across every border on the route.
Real travelers rate KnowRoaming 4.5 out of 5 on Reviews.io. More than a decade in travel connectivity, more than 200 destinations, and support that doesn't clock off: WhatsApp and live chat, any time, any day.

The roaming went really well in the begining but towards the end the data started depleting very fast even though I was not using it too much
