Yes, as long as you leave your home SIM switched on. Keep the eSIM as your data line and your usual number keeps ringing, though your home carrier may still charge its own roaming rates for those calls and texts.
The profile cannot be installed, so check your model before you buy. iPhone XR and later, most Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Pixel 3 and later all support eSIM; a few older or carrier-locked handsets do not.
That depends on the plan. Regional and global plans cover a list of countries on a single profile, while a single-country plan covers only that country. Check the coverage list on the plan before you buy.
