How to add your plan, start to finish
Choose a plan, add it to your phone at home, turn on data roaming when you land, and top up if you need to. Only the first two happen before you fly, and the add takes about a minute in the app. The guide for your phone is Add your plan on iPhone, Add your plan on Samsung, or Add your plan on Android.
- Choose a destination and a plan, in the app or on knowroaming.com, fixed or unlimited.
- Add the plan to your phone at home, on Wi-Fi. In the app it takes about a minute.
- Turn on data roaming when you land; only your phone's settings can switch it on.
- Connect. Your phone finds a network and your plan starts.
- Top up any time from the app if a fixed plan runs low.
Bought on the website? The QR code is in your confirmation email and on your order page, with nothing to scan if you add the plan from the app instead. The app can add the plan, but only your phone's settings can switch roaming on. If you have the app, use it. The auto setup can't be mis-scanned, and it tells you when the plan is on your phone. A plan bought on the website shows in the app too, so you can add it there instead of scanning. The QR code and the SM-DP+ details in your confirmation email do the same job from your phone's Settings; keep the email either way.
- It's fine to add your plan days before you fly, as long as you have a stable connection to do it. Leave data roaming off until you land. Nothing on your plan starts until you connect abroad, so there's no downside to adding early and switching on later.
- Your plan starts when you connect in a supported country, not when you buy. Your validity days count from that first connection. Unused data expires at the end of your validity period. It doesn't roll over.
- KnowRoaming plans work on iPhone XS and later and on most Android flagships released since 2019. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. Check your exact model on the device compatibility page before you buy.
- Your plan is data only, with no phone number, calls, or SMS. Calls and texts keep using your home number.
