Adding a new plan while already roaming on another network
Moving from one country's plan to the next has no gap, because both plans live on the same KnowRoaming eSIM. Buy the next plan in the app on your current plan's data, and it goes onto the eSIM you already have, with no new eSIM and no data roaming steps to redo. If both countries are on the same regional plan, none of this applies: the phone switches networks by itself at the border.
Steps
- Stay connected. Your current plan's data is enough to buy the next one; you don't need Wi-Fi.
- In the app, choose the new destination and plan, and add it to this device.
- When you arrive in the new country, give the phone a minute to connect on the new plan.
- If it hasn't connected, switch on Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, then switch it off again.
- Check the APN. A country that uses a different APN, or none, needs the old one cleared or changed.
Good to know
- The APN table and the path for your phone are in your add guide under Setting your APN. A plan that used kroly in Japan, for example, needs the APN cleared for a country that uses none.
- Your plan starts when you connect in a supported country, not when you buy. Your validity days count from that first connection. Unused data expires at the end of your validity period. It doesn't roll over. The new plan waits until you connect in its country; the old one keeps running until then.
