Quels voyageurs quelles sont les questions qui nous sont le plus souvent posées ?
Yes. The Europe plan covers France and 48 other countries, including Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, and the UK, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. It does not cover Andorra or Monaco, which have their own plans. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In France your plan connects to Orange or Free, with 5G in the cities and along the TGV lines and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
No. The overseas territories are separate KnowRoaming destinations with their own plans; the Caribbean ones are also on the Caribbean plan and Réunion and Mayotte on the Africa plan. Add the territory's plan to the same eSIM before you fly.
Not a France plan or the Europe plan; Monaco has its own network and its own KnowRoaming plan. For a day trip from Nice, add a Monaco plan to the same eSIM before the train; it starts counting only when you connect there.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your France plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

France eSIM for Paris, the TGV, the Alps, and the Riviera
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

France is the most visited country in the world, and most of those visits start with a train from Charles de Gaulle bought on a phone that may or may not be working. The best eSIM for France is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the RER into Paris, the museum slot, and the TGV to the coast are all booked on a phone that connected at the gate.
Below: how a France plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Paris, on the TGV, in the Alps, and on the coasts, and why a France trip that touches a neighbor wants the Europe plan.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: France now, Spain in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in France, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your France plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your France plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Charles de Gaulle has the RER B into central Paris in about half an hour and Orly the Orlyval and metro link; tickets for both, and for the Métro, the buses, and the trams, live in the Île-de-France Mobilités and Bonjour RATP apps, which need data to buy on the move. Uber and Bolt both run in Paris. France uses the euro and takes cards almost everywhere, with a little cash for the markets and the boulangerie.
The Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Eiffel Tower, and Versailles all sell timed tickets online, and the walk-up queue in summer is the worst hour of the trip; book ahead on the phone.
The TGV reaches Lyon in two hours, Bordeaux and Marseille in a little over three, and Nice in under six, with tickets in the SNCF Connect app and 5G for most of each route; the regional TER trains reach the villages beyond. The Loire châteaux, Normandy's beaches and Mont-Saint-Michel, Provence's markets, and the Bordeaux vineyards are each a day or a weekend from the fast-train stations.
Chamonix, Val d'Isère, Les Trois Vallées, and the rest of the ski resorts run lift passes and piste maps through apps, and the resort bases all have 5G; above the tree line, on the glaciers, and on the summer hut-to-hut routes the signal drops on every network. The Pyrenees are the same story on a smaller scale. Corsica, by ferry from Marseille or Nice or by air, is covered by the France plan, with 4G in the towns and gaps on the GR20.
France touches Spain, Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium, and the Eurostar reaches London in two and a quarter hours. Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the UK are all on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself at the border. Andorra and Monaco are not: both have their own KnowRoaming plans, and a France plan or the Europe plan goes quiet on the Monaco seafront. A France-only plan stops at every border. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Martin, Saint Barthélemy, French Guiana, Réunion, and Mayotte are France on the map and separate KnowRoaming destinations in the app: each has its own plan, and the Caribbean ones are on the Caribbean plan while Réunion and Mayotte are on the Africa plan. A France plan does not work in any of them. Add the territory's own plan to the same eSIM before you fly.
Your plan connects to Orange or Free, with 5G in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nice, and every regional city and along the TGV lines, and 4G LTE across the countryside and the coasts. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the high Alps and Pyrenees, on the GR trails, and in the deep countryside of the Massif Central, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in the valley.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a France plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A France plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
