Quels voyageurs quelles sont les questions qui nous sont le plus souvent posées ?
Not reliably. Liechtenstein's networks are its own. A Liechtenstein plan works, and so does the Europe plan, which covers Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Austria on one plan and switches by itself on the bus. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Liechtenstein your plan connects to Salt or FL1, with 5G in the valley towns and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after you arrive, work through the no-signal checklist.
Either the Europe plan, which covers both countries, or a Liechtenstein plan added to the same eSIM as your Switzerland plan. The Liechtenstein plan starts counting only when you connect across the Rhine, so a day trip uses one day.
At Malbun's base and on the pistes, yes. On the Fürstensteig and the high trails, not reliably, on any network. Download the route before you climb.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Liechtenstein plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Liechtenstein eSIM for Vaduz, Malbun, and the day trip from Zurich
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Liechtenstein is a country you can cross by bus in half an hour, with no airport, no railway station of its own worth the name, and phone networks that are not Swiss, which is why the plan that worked in Zurich can go quiet on the bridge over the Rhine. The best eSIM for Liechtenstein is one that's ready before the bus from Sargans or Feldkirch, so Vaduz castle is found and the Malbun lift pass is bought on arrival.
Below: how a Liechtenstein plan works, how to set it up before you travel, why the Europe plan is the neat answer here, and what to expect in the valley, on the slopes, and on the trails.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Liechtenstein now, Austria in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Liechtenstein, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Liechtenstein plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Liechtenstein plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
There are no flights and the one railway station, Schaan-Vaduz, sees a handful of Austrian regional trains; nearly everyone arrives by bus from Sargans or Buchs on the Swiss side, about half an hour, or from Feldkirch in Austria, with Zurich airport an hour and a half away. The LIEmobil buses cover every village and the Malbun ski resort, with tickets in the app.
The Swiss franc is the currency and euros are taken at a poor rate; cards work nearly everywhere. Vaduz's castle above the town, the art museum, and the postage-stamp museum are the capital; the whole country is walkable in a long day along the Liechtenstein Trail.
Balzers's Gutenberg castle in the south, Triesenberg's Walser villages on the slope above Vaduz, and the Rhine cycle path along the Swiss border fill the rest of a weekend; the bus reaches all of them, and the app shows where it is.
Liechtenstein has its own networks, Salt and FL1, and a Switzerland-only or Austria-only plan may not connect here. A Liechtenstein plan does, and so does the Europe plan, which covers Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Austria on one plan and switches networks by itself on the bus across the Rhine; for a day trip from Zurich, the Europe plan is the neat answer. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Malbun is the country's one ski resort, 1,600 meters up a valley road from Vaduz, small, family-run, and covered on 5G at the base; the Fürstensteig ridge path above it and the Alpine trails toward the Austrian border drop out on every network. The Liechtenstein Trail, 75 km through every municipality, has signal in the villages and thin patches in the forest between.
Vaduz is a finance center, and many visits are a day of meetings on the way to or from Zurich; Salt's and FL1's 5G handle video calls from any hotel. For a posting of weeks, an unlimited plan, with 5 GB a day at full speed, covers the calls and the hotspot; a fixed plan suits the day trip. Both are on the plan selector at the top of this page.
National Day on 15 August, when the prince opens the castle garden and the fireworks fill the valley, is the one day the country crowds; the ski season at Malbun runs December to April, and the summer trails from June. Both are small enough that the buses and the lifts run on the app's timetable rather than on a queue.
Your plan connects to Salt or FL1, with 5G in Vaduz, Schaan, and the Rhine valley towns and 4G LTE up the side valleys and at Malbun. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
On the Fürstensteig, the high trails, and the passes toward Austria, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in the valley.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Liechtenstein plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Liechtenstein plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
