Quali viaggiatori quali sono le domande che ci vengono poste più spesso?
15: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The same list is on the plan card under "Where this eSIM works". Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
No. Each is sold as its own KnowRoaming plan and added to the same eSIM for that leg in about a minute. Bolivia is the one that catches most people, on the road between Peru and Chile.
Yes. Keep data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line, give the phone a minute after the crossing, and it joins the local partner network on its own. If it doesn't, airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again forces a fresh search.
In four of the 15 countries: Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and Guatemala. Everywhere else the plan runs on 4G LTE. If the phone hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
An unlimited LATAM plan, with 5 GB a day at full speed, for the 15 countries, plus a Bolivia or Belize plan on the same eSIM for the legs outside it. Buy the next plan as you go, since plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your LATAM plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.

LATAM eSIM for the route from Mexico to Patagonia: 15 countries, one plan
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
A LATAM eSIM that follows the route from Mexico to Patagonia is the point of this plan. The classic Latin American trip crosses a border every week or two, from Mexico down through Central America, or along the Andes from Colombia to Chile and Argentina, and each crossing used to mean a new SIM and a new registration. The LATAM plan puts 15 countries on one eSIM, with the phone switching networks by itself at each border. Add it at home, on Wi-Fi, and it's live the moment you land in the first of them.
Below: how the LATAM eSIM plan works, how to set it up before you fly, exactly which countries it covers and which it doesn't, and what to expect from coverage in the cities, on the buses, and in the mountains and jungles.
A South American trip is usually long, and it usually crosses a border or two. KnowRoaming is built for that. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, then add a plan per trip: the LATAM plan now, a LATAM plan the year the route runs through three countries, anywhere else after that. The eSIM stays; only the plan changes.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in any country on the plan, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your LATAM plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your LATAM plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
North and Central America: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay.
That's 15 countries on one plan with one data balance. The full list is also on the plan card above, under "Where this eSIM works"; check it against your route before you buy.
Three gaps catch travelers on the classic routes. Bolivia is not on the LATAM plan, so the Titicaca to La Paz to Uyuni leg between Peru and Chile needs a Bolivia plan; Belize is not on it, so the hop from Flores to Caye Caulker needs a Belize plan; and Paraguay is not on it either. Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana are separate too, with French Guiana on the Caribbean plan. Each is added to the same eSIM for that leg in about a minute. Cuba is not a KnowRoaming destination. For a trip that is Mexico plus the USA or Canada, the North America plan is the tighter fit. Read crossing into a border country your plan doesn't include before a route that crosses into a country the plan doesn't include.
A LATAM eSIM switches networks by itself as you cross: Tapachula into Guatemala, the Peñas Blancas crossing into Costa Rica, Rumichaca from Colombia into Ecuador, the Mendoza pass into Chile, the Buquebus ferry into Uruguay. There is nothing to change in the app at the border, and the days keep counting from the first time you connected, wherever that was.
Two habits make it painless. Keep data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line the whole trip, since that is the one setting the app can't change for you, and give the phone a minute after each crossing; if it hasn't found the new network, airplane mode on and off forces a fresh search.
The long-distance buses that link the route, booked in the operators' apps and at the terminals, are where the plan earns its keep on the road, with 4G along most of the highways and gaps in the mountains; Uber, DiDi, Cabify, and 99 cover the cities with the number you already have. Cards work in the cities and the tourist towns, cash covers the rest, and the QR payment systems that run daily life in Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico mostly need local accounts; keep the bank app on data for the card approvals.
In every country the plan connects to a local partner network, with 5G in four of the 15 (Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and Guatemala) and 4G LTE in the rest. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
The gaps are the ones any network has: the Patagonian trails, the Andean passes and the Inca Trail, the Amazon beyond the river towns, Corcovado and Tortuguero, and the Galápagos boats. Each destination page says what to expect where; the habit that covers all of them is downloading maps and bookings before the leg that leaves the cities.
The route has two calendars: Central America and the Caribbean coasts run dry from December to April and wet with hurricane risk from June to November, while the southern Andes and Patagonia are summer from December to February and closed by snow in July. Carnival, in February or March, fills Rio, Salvador, Barranquilla, and Oruro months ahead; Semana Santa fills everything else. Operators post changes to WhatsApp and their apps first, which is the practical reason to keep the plan on.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a LATAM plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For South America the alternatives are your home carrier's roaming rate, often unavailable outside the capital; a local SIM that means paperwork, a local number, and a queue; or hostel Wi-Fi that is fine until you're on a bus. A LATAM plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a LATAM plan if the route crosses borders.
