What you need before you buy

Four things to check before you pay. Each takes under a minute, and together they're the difference between a working plan and a refund request.

Steps

  1. Your phone supports eSIM. Dial *#06#; a 32-digit EID means yes. See the one-minute compatibility check.
  2. Your phone is unlocked, not tied to your home carrier. See how to tell if it's locked.
  3. Your phone's software is current. An up-to-date iOS or Android avoids most setup surprises.
  4. You have Wi-Fi or mobile data to hand. The add takes about a minute on a steady connection.

Good to know

  • Your plan is data only, with no phone number, calls, or SMS. Calls and texts keep using your home number.
  • Your plan starts when you connect in a supported country, not when you buy. Your validity days count from that first connection. Unused data expires at the end of your validity period. It doesn't roll over.
  • It's fine to add your plan days before you fly, as long as you have a stable connection to do it. Leave data roaming off until you land. Nothing on your plan starts until you connect abroad, so there's no downside to adding early and switching on later.
  • A plan bought for a phone that fails checks 1 or 2 is refunded in full if it was never added. Checking first is faster.
