哪些旅行者 大家最常问我们什么?
Yes. The Europe plan covers Finland and 48 other countries, including Estonia, Sweden, and Norway, and your phone switches networks by itself at the port or the border. Choose it over a Finland-only plan if the Tallinn or Stockholm ferry is on the route. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Finland your plan connects to DNA or Telia, with 5G in the cities and the Lapland resorts and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
In Rovaniemi and the resorts, yes, including the aurora alert apps. Out on the snowmobile trails and the fells, not reliably, on any network. Keep the phone warm; the cold drains the battery faster than the data does.
On the Europe plan, yes at both ends and for much of the crossing; a Finland-only plan stops as you leave Finnish waters and an Estonia plan starts when you connect on the other side.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Finland plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Finland eSIM for Helsinki, Lapland, and the ferries to Tallinn and Stockholm
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

Finland is a cashless, app-driven country where the train to Rovaniemi, the sauna booking, and the northern-lights alert all arrive on the phone, and the arrivals hall at Helsinki-Vantaa is the wrong place to be without one. The best eSIM for Finland is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the airport train into the city is bought on the platform and the rest of the week is planned on board.
Below: how a Finland plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Helsinki, on the lakes, and in Lapland, and why a Nordic loop wants the Europe plan.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Finland now, Sweden in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Finland, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Finland plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Finland plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Helsinki-Vantaa has trains into the city every 15 minutes, about half an hour to the central station, with tickets in the HSL app or by tapping a card; the same app covers the trams, buses, and the ferry to Suomenlinna. Uber and Bolt run in the capital. Finland uses the euro and is close to cashless, with cards and phone wallets accepted everywhere down to the market hall stalls.
The Design District, the Oodi library, the sea fortress, and the saunas along the waterfront are the first days; the VR app sells train tickets for the whole country, and the long-distance trains have 5G for most of their routes.
Rovaniemi, on the Arctic Circle, is an overnight train or a short flight north, with Santa's village, husky and reindeer safaris, and the northern lights from September to March. Levi, Ylläs, and Saariselkä are the ski and aurora resorts beyond it. The resorts and the towns have 5G or strong 4G; the wilderness between them, the snowmobile trails, and the fell tops drop out on every network.
The aurora apps and the resort's alert services need data to wake you at two in the morning, which is the practical reason to keep the plan on in Lapland; the cold drains batteries fast, so a power bank in an inside pocket is the other habit.
The Lake District around Savonlinna and Kuopio, with the opera festival in Savonlinna's castle each July, is the summer Finland; Turku, the old capital, and its archipelago of thousands of islands are the west. The towns have 5G, the lake cottages and the outer islands thin out, and the ferries between islands are the usual signal gaps.
The ferry to Tallinn takes two hours and runs several times a day; the overnight ferries to Stockholm are a trip in themselves; the train to Rovaniemi is the other direction entirely. Estonia and Sweden are on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself at the port, so a Nordic or Baltic loop fits it without any change in the app. A Finland-only plan stops at the coast. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Midsummer at the end of June empties the cities and fills the lake cottages, with everything closed for the weekend; the polar night in Lapland runs from December to January, and the ski season from November to May. The Christmas markets and Rovaniemi's December are the busiest weeks of the year in the north, booked months out.
Your plan connects to DNA or Telia, with 5G in Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Rovaniemi, and the Lapland resorts and 4G LTE across the towns and rail lines. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the Lapland wilderness, on the fells, and in the outer archipelago, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town, and keep the phone warm.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Finland plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Finland plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
