They show the same account. Either one buys plans, tops up, and shows your plans, orders, and invoices. One thing only the app does: add the plan to your phone with nothing to scan. From the website, you add it with the QR code and details on your order page.

Use the app for anything on the phone itself. That means adding a plan through the auto setup, the compatibility check during setup, and notifications when data runs low or a plan is expiring. Use either for browsing and buying, My plans, Top up, Order history, invoices, account details, and Kreds.
A plan bought on knowroaming.com shows in the app as soon as you sign in with the same email. You can add it there instead of scanning. If something isn't where you expect on one, check the other before assuming it's missing.
