Coverage in the USA, Canada, and Mexico

Each country has its own plan, or the North America plan covers all three on one eSIM and switches networks by itself as you cross a border. The USA needs no APN; Canada and Mexico use the tn1 APN, so set it before you connect if either is on your route.

More detail

A trip that starts in the USA and drives into Canada or Mexico is what the North America plan is for: one plan, no change at the border. Mexico is also on the Latin America plan, useful if the trip carries on south. Choose the country plan for one country and the regional plan for two or more.

Two settings to know. Canada and Mexico use the tn1 APN and the USA needs none. A plan that crosses into Canada or Mexico wants the APN set at home; the table and the path for your phone are in your add guide under Setting your APN. And US carriers sell locked phones more than most markets. If you bought your phone through a US carrier, check it's unlocked before you travel; see Carrier-locked, region-locked, or unlocked: how to tell.

The signal is strongest around cities, airports, and main routes and thins in rural and remote areas, the same as at home. Each country's page says where, and names the networks your plan uses there. See What to expect from coverage, city to countryside. Your plan starts when you connect in a supported country, not when you buy. Your validity days count from that first connection. Unused data expires at the end of your validity period. It doesn't roll over.
