Use your KnowRoaming plan for data instead of your home SIM

Your phone sends data over whichever line is selected for it, so select the KnowRoaming line. If your home SIM stays selected with its roaming off, you get full bars and nothing loads. Calls and texts stay on your home number either way.

More detail

The setting has a different name on each phone. On iPhone it is Cellular Data. On Samsung it is Mobile data, under Preferred SIMs. On other Android phones it is Mobile data, on the KnowRoaming SIM's own screen. It is separate from Data Roaming, and you need both: one chooses the line, the other lets it connect abroad. The taps, in order, are in Turn on data roaming for your plan on iPhone, Turn on data roaming for your plan on Samsung, and Turn on data roaming for your plan on Android.

On iPhone, one more setting can undo your choice. Allow Cellular Data Switching lets the phone move data between lines on its own. Turn it off while you travel: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > Allow Cellular Data Switching. If data keeps moving back to your home SIM after a restart or an update, see Phone reverting to the home SIM automatically.

Your plan is data only, with no phone number, calls, or SMS. Calls and texts keep using your home number.

When you get home, turn data roaming off and set your data back to your regular SIM, so you don't pick up roaming charges. Your KnowRoaming plan stays on your phone, ready for your next trip.
