Coverage in Japan and South Korea

Each country has its own plan, and both are on the Asia plan, useful if your trip continues elsewhere in the region. Both use the kroly APN, so set it before you connect, and it's the same setting for both if you travel between them.

More detail

Japan and South Korea have dense, modern networks, including on high-speed rail and in metro systems, so day-to-day connection is rarely the problem there. Set the APN once and you're done; the table and the path for your phone are in your add guide under Setting your APN. If you land and have full bars but nothing loads, the APN is the first thing to check; see Full bars but nothing loads: signal without data.

For a trip that takes in both, or continues to Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Southeast Asia, the Asia plan covers the route on one plan and switches networks at each border. Mainland China has its own rules; see Coverage in China.

The signal is strongest around cities, airports, and main routes and thins in rural and remote areas, the same as at home. Each country's page says where, and names the networks your plan uses there. See What to expect from coverage, city to countryside. Your plan starts when you connect in a supported country, not when you buy. Your validity days count from that first connection. Unused data expires at the end of your validity period. It doesn't roll over.
