Switch networks manually when the automatic pick is weak

Your phone picks a network automatically, usually the strongest, and that is usually right. When it holds onto a weak or congested one, choosing another by hand takes a minute. Do it on the KnowRoaming line, not your home SIM.

Before you start

Manual selection stays put. If you cross a border on a regional plan, switch automatic back on first, or the phone keeps looking for the network you chose. And not every network in the list accepts your plan; if one refuses, pick the next.

Where the setting is, by phone. iPhone: Settings > Cellular > your KnowRoaming eSIM > Network Selection. Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators. Other Android phones: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > your KnowRoaming eSIM > Automatically select network.

Steps

  1. Open the network selection screen for the KnowRoaming line, at the path above for your phone.
  2. Turn off the automatic setting.
  3. Wait for the list of available networks. It can take up to a minute.
  4. Tap a different network from the one you were on.
  5. If it connects, stay on it. If it refuses, tap the next.
  6. Switch on Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, then switch it off again, so the phone registers cleanly.
