Yes. The Europe plan covers Albania and 48 other countries, including Greece and North Macedonia, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. It does not cover Montenegro or Kosovo; Montenegro has its own plan and Kosovo is on the Global plan only. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Albania your plan connects to One or Vodafone, with 5G in Tirana and the larger towns and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Not on most of it. The villages at each end have signal; the trail between them largely doesn't, on any network. Download offline maps and the route before you start, tell your guesthouse when to expect you, and plan for a day without data.
The Albania plan works until the boat leaves Sarandë. Corfu is Greece, so you need either a Greece plan or the Europe plan, which covers both countries and switches by itself at the port. Choose the Europe plan from the start if a Corfu day is likely.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Albania plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Albania eSIM for Tirana, the Riviera, and the mountains
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Albania is the kind of country where the bus has no timetable online and the best beach is reached by a track that isn't on the map, which is exactly why the best eSIM for Albania is the one that's working before you leave the arrivals hall. Add an Albania plan at home, on Wi-Fi, and your phone connects to 5G at Tirana airport without a SIM kiosk, a QR code at the gate, or a roaming bill afterward.
Below: how an Albania plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Tirana, on the coast, and in the mountains, and what happens when the trip crosses into Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, or Kosovo.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Albania now, Greece in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Albania, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Albania plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Albania plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Tirana International Airport sits about 25 km from the center. The Rinas Express bus runs into town roughly hourly and a taxi takes 30 to 45 minutes; both are easier to arrange with a working phone, because the bus stop moves and the taxi rank has no fixed prices. Cards are accepted in Tirana's restaurants and hotels, but Albania is still a cash country once you leave the capital, so draw lek from an ATM early.
Getting around the country means furgons, the shared minibuses that leave when full from stations that change without notice. There is no reliable timetable online; the working method is to ask, message, and check the day before, all of which needs data. Skanderbeg Square, the Blloku district, and the Pyramid are walkable from most central hotels.
The coast road south from Vlorë climbs over the Llogara Pass and drops to Dhërmi, Himarë, Ksamil, and Sarandë, with signal dropping on the pass and returning in each village. Berat and Gjirokastër, both UNESCO towns, are a half day from Tirana by furgon. Book the Komani Lake ferry ahead for the north; it fills in summer.
The Theth to Valbona hike through the Accursed Mountains is the reason many people come, and most of the trail has no signal on any network. Download the route, the maps, and your guesthouse's WhatsApp number before you set off, and let people know the day you'll be back in range.
The ferry from Sarandë to Corfu takes half an hour to an hour depending on the boat, and Greece is on the same Europe plan as Albania, so the phone switches networks by itself at the port. North Macedonia and Greece are both on the Europe plan too. Montenegro is not: it is sold as its own KnowRoaming destination, and Kosovo is covered by the Global plan only, so a Balkan road trip that takes in either needs a plan for that leg. An Albania-only plan stops at the border. Read do I need a new plan for every country? before you decide.
Albania has become a base for people who work from a laptop, with Tirana's café culture, a long-stay permit aimed at remote workers, and rents that make a winter on the Riviera plausible. Video calls run fine on 5G in the capital and on 4G in Sarandë and Vlorë; upload speeds drop in the smaller coastal villages.
For a stay measured in weeks, an unlimited plan, with 5 GB a day at full speed, covers calls, hotspot for the laptop when the apartment Wi-Fi drops, and the streaming that fills a rainy evening. Power cuts happen outside the capital, so a power bank keeps the phone and the tethered laptop going through them.
Durrës, half an hour from Tirana, is the country's main port and its closest beach; the overnight ferries to Bari and Ancona in Italy leave from here, and Italy is on the Europe plan, so the phone picks up an Italian network as the boat comes in. Shkodër, two hours north, is the gateway to the Accursed Mountains and the Komani Lake ferry, with a lakeside old town worth the stop.
Both towns have 4G, and both are where you'll book the next leg: the ferry ticket, the minibus to Theth, the guesthouse on the lake. Do it in town; the signal on the boat and on the mountain road is not something to plan around.
Your plan connects to One or Vodafone, with 5G in Tirana and the bigger towns and 4G LTE along the coast and the main roads. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
Coverage thins fast in the interior. The Llogara Pass, the road to Theth, and the high valleys of the north all have long stretches with no signal on any network, so treat mountain days as offline and save what you need the night before.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding an Albania plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. An Albania plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
