Quali viaggiatori quali sono le domande che ci vengono poste più spesso?
Yes. The Europe plan covers Romania and 48 other countries, including Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, and Moldova, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Romania your plan connects to Orange or Vodafone, with 5G in the cities and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
At the villages at either end and at the Bâlea lake cable car, yes. On the pass itself, not reliably, on any network. Download the route and check the road is open before you set off.
In Tulcea and the villages, yes, on 4G. On the boats and the channels, no, on any network. Confirm the lodge's boat by message before you leave Tulcea.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Romania plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Romania eSIM for Bucharest, Transylvania, and the Danube Delta
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Romania is a ride app in the capital, a train that takes its time through Transylvania, and a mountain road that closes in October, and Bucharest's arrivals hall is the place to have a phone that already works. The best eSIM for Romania is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the Bolt into the old town and the Bran castle slot are sorted before the bags come round.
Below: how a Romania plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Bucharest, Transylvania, the mountains, and the Danube Delta, and why a Balkan loop wants the Europe plan.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Romania now, Bulgaria in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Romania, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Romania plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Romania plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Bucharest's airport is about 45 minutes from the old town by the express bus, the train, or a Bolt, which works with the number you already have; Cluj's airport is about half an hour from the center. Romania keeps the leu, so prices are in lei; cards are accepted widely in the cities, and cash helps in the villages and at the monasteries.
The Palace of the Parliament's tour, the old town, and the Village Museum are Bucharest's days; the CFR and the private operators' trains reach the rest of the country from the Gara de Nord, slowly, with tickets in their apps.
Brașov's old town and the cable car, Bran castle's timed entry, Sighișoara's citadel, and Sibiu's squares are Transylvania, three to five hours from Bucharest by train or a drive over the mountains; the fortified churches of the Saxon villages are the detours. Orange's and Vodafone's 5G cover the cities and 4G the roads between; the village lanes and the forest tracks thin out.
Cluj-Napoca, the Transylvanian capital, is the student city with the Untold festival in August and the Turda salt mine's underground theme park; Timișoara in the west is the 1989 revolution's city and a European capital of culture. Both have 5G and their own airports.
The Transfăgărășan and the Transalpina, the two high mountain roads, open from roughly June to October and are drives for their own sake, with bears at the roadside and no signal on the passes on any network; the Bucegi plateau's cable cars from Bușteni, the Piatra Craiului hikes, and the ski season at Poiana Brașov are the mountains' other reasons. Download the route before the climb.
Tulcea is the gateway to the Delta, three hours from Bucharest, and the boats to Sulina and the channels are the trip, with pelicans, the lodges confirming by message, and signal at the villages and none on the water; Constanța and Mamaia are the Black Sea's beach summer. The painted monasteries of Bucovina in the far north are the other long trip, with 4G in the towns.
Romania touches Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Moldova, and Ukraine, and all five are on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself at the border; Sofia and Budapest are each a train ride, and Chișinău a bus. Ukraine's crossings are subject to conditions that change. Romania is also on the Global plan. A Romania-only plan stops at the border. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Your plan connects to Orange or Vodafone, with 5G in Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara, Iași, Brașov, and Constanța and 4G LTE across the towns and the main roads. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
On the Transfăgărășan and Transalpina, the high trails, and the Delta's channels, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Romania plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Romania plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
