Welke reizigers wat vragen jullie ons het vaakst?
Yes. The LATAM plan covers Honduras and 14 other countries, including Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. It does not cover Belize. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Honduras your plan connects to Claro or Tigo on 4G LTE, which handles maps, messaging, video calls, and streaming; 5G is not part of this plan. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Yes, with 4G in the towns and on the beaches of both islands. On the dive boats and in the far east of Roatán, the signal fades. Confirm the dive pickup by message the evening before.
In Copán Ruinas town, yes. Inside the park, it drops, on any network. Download the site map and buy the ticket online before you walk in.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Honduras plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Honduras eSIM for Roatán, the Bay Islands, and Copán
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Most trips to Honduras are a dive island, a Maya city, or a work assignment on the mainland, and all three start with an airport where the phone should already be working. The best eSIM for Honduras is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the dive shop's pickup on Roatán or the shuttle to Copán is confirmed while the bags come round.
Below: how a Honduras plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect on the Bay Islands, at Copán, and in the cities, and which plan fits when Guatemala or El Salvador is on the same trip.
A Central American trip rarely stays in one country; the buses and the border posts are part of it. KnowRoaming is built for that. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, then add a plan per trip: Honduras now, a LATAM plan the year the route runs down the isthmus, anywhere else after that. The eSIM stays; only the plan changes, and nothing needs deleting when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Honduras, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Honduras plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Honduras plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Roatán's airport takes direct flights from the USA and Canada and sits minutes from West End and West Bay; San Pedro Sula is the mainland's business hub, and Palmerola, the newer airport near Comayagua, serves Tegucigalpa. Resort and dive-shop transfers meet the island flights; on the mainland, pre-booked shuttles are the way between towns, and Uber runs in the two big cities.
The lempira is the currency and US dollars are accepted on the islands; cards work in the resorts, the dive shops, and the city hotels, and cash covers the rest.
Roatán's West End and West Bay are the reef, the dive shops, and the sunset bars; Utila, the backpacker island reached by ferry from La Ceiba, is where many people learn to dive for the price of a course. Both have 4G in the towns and on the beaches; on the dive boats the signal fades a mile out, and the far east of Roatán thins. Dive shops confirm by message the evening before.
Roatán's East End, Camp Bay, and the Garifuna village of Punta Gorda are the quiet side of the island, an hour from West End on a road that thins the signal as it goes; the zip lines, the sloth sanctuary, and the cruise-day beaches at Mahogany Bay are the other half of the island's economy, and a port day works on a one-day plan that starts counting as you come ashore.
Copán Ruinas, near the Guatemalan border, is the Maya city with the carved stelae and the macaws, a full day with a guide and a signal that holds at the town and drops in the park. Lake Yojoa, Pico Bonito's rainforest lodges, and the Cangrejal river rafting near La Ceiba are the mainland's other stops; the towns have 4G and the lodges are offline. Organizations sending staff to the cities issue their own guidance, which should be followed over anything on this page.
Tegucigalpa's center, the Basilica of Suyapa, and the Valle de Ángeles craft villages fill a day in the capital; San Pedro Sula is the business city, with the airport that most mainland trips still use. Both have 4G and both run on Uber.
Honduras is on the LATAM plan, 15 countries on one plan that also covers Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua; the Ruta Maya loop through Copán, Antigua, and Lake Atitlán runs on it with the phone switching networks by itself at each border. Belize, across the Gulf from the Bay Islands, is not on the LATAM plan and has its own plan. A Honduras-only plan stops at the border. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Whale sharks pass Utila most reliably from March to April and August to September, and the dive shops post sightings to their channels the same morning; June to November is hurricane season, when the ferries and the island flights post changes to their apps first. The dry season from February to May is the busiest on the islands.
Your plan connects to Claro or Tigo on 4G LTE. There is no 5G on this plan. Coverage is strong on Roatán and Utila, in San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa, and La Ceiba, and holds on the main roads. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the Copán park, the rainforest lodges, the mountains, and on the dive boats, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Honduras plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
In Central America the alternatives are your home carrier's roaming rate, often unavailable outside the capital; a local SIM at each border with a new number each time; or hostel Wi-Fi that is fine until you're on a bus. A Honduras plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a LATAM plan if the route crosses borders.
