Welke reizigers wat vragen jullie ons het vaakst?
Yes. The Europe plan covers the UK and 48 other countries, including Ireland, Jersey, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, France, and the Netherlands, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border or on the Eurostar. It does not cover Guernsey. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In the UK your plan connects to EE or Three, with 5G in the cities and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Northern Ireland, yes; it is the UK. Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar have their own networks and their own plans, and a UK plan may not work on them. Ireland is a separate country and plan.
Only on the Europe plan, which covers France; a UK-only plan stops in the tunnel. If you're already in the UK on a UK plan, add a France plan to the same eSIM before you board.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your UK plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

United Kingdom (UK) eSIM for London, the trains, and Scotland
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
The United Kingdom (UK) is a Tube gate that takes a tap, a train system that sells its cheapest tickets weeks ahead in an app, and four nations in one country with a border to Ireland you won't notice, and Heathrow's arrivals hall is the place to have a phone that already works. The best eSIM for the UK is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the Elizabeth line is tapped through and the Tower of London slot is on the phone before the bags come round.
Below: how a UK plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in London, on the rails, and in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and what changes for the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, and the Eurostar.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: the United Kingdom now, Ireland in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in the United Kingdom, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your UK plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your UK plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Heathrow's Elizabeth line reaches central London in about 45 minutes and the Piccadilly line in 50, with a contactless bank card or phone wallet tapping through every Tube, bus, and rail gate in the capital; Gatwick, Manchester, and Edinburgh have trains into their cities. Uber and Bolt run everywhere. Most passports need an electronic travel authorization arranged before the flight; keep it saved offline. The pound is the currency and cards work nearly everywhere; cash is rare.
The Tower, the British Museum, the Eye, and the theatres sell timed tickets online; the Trainline and the operators' apps sell the cheap advance fares for the rest of the country, and the split-ticket trick lives in the same apps.
Manchester, Liverpool, York, and Edinburgh are each two to four and a half hours from London by train, Bath and Oxford under two; the Cotswolds, the Lake District, and Cornwall are the rental-car weeks. EE's and Three's 5G cover every city and most towns, 4G the rail lines and the countryside, and the Lake District's fells, the Dales, and Cornwall's coast path thin out.
Edinburgh's festival in August, the Highlands by car on the North Coast 500, Skye by bridge, and the Whisky trail are Scotland; Snowdonia's peaks and the Pembrokeshire coast are Wales; Belfast, the Giant's Causeway, and the Antrim coast are Northern Ireland, part of the UK and covered by the UK plan, with the border to the Republic of Ireland invisible on the road and real on the phone. The Highlands, the islands, and the Welsh mountains have long gaps on every network.
Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man are Crown dependencies with their own networks and their own KnowRoaming plans, and a UK plan may not work on them; Gibraltar is the same. Ireland, across the invisible border, is a different country and a different plan. All of those except Guernsey, and France, Belgium, and the Netherlands by Eurostar, are on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself at the border, which makes the Europe plan the neat answer for a trip that touches any of them. The UK is also on the Global plan. A UK-only plan stops at every border. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
London, Manchester, and Edinburgh are long-stay cities for students, the tech and finance sectors, and the many people with a visa to work; EE's and Three's 5G handle video calls from any flat, and shared-house Wi-Fi is what the plan's hotspot is for. For a stay of weeks, an unlimited UK eSIM plan, with 5 GB a day at full speed, is the right buy; fixed plans suit a city break. Both are on the plan selector at the top of this page.
Your plan connects to EE or Three, with 5G in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, and every major city and 4G LTE across the towns, the rail lines, and the countryside. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the Highlands beyond the towns, the Hebrides, the Lake District's fells, Snowdonia, and the Dales, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a UK plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A UK plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
