Que viajantes quais são as perguntas que mais nos fazem?
No. The LATAM plan covers Argentina, Brazil, and 13 others, but not Paraguay. Paraguay is on the Global plan and is sold as its own plan; add one of those to the same eSIM for this leg. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Paraguay your plan connects to Claro or Tigo on 4G LTE, which handles maps, messaging, video calls, and streaming; 5G is not part of this plan. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Up to the Friendship Bridge, yes. The falls are in Brazil and Argentina, on the LATAM plan; add the LATAM plan or a Brazil plan to the same eSIM before you cross.
In Filadelfia and the Mennonite towns, yes, on 4G. On the Trans-Chaco between towns and in the parks, no, on any network. Download the route before the overnight bus.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Paraguay plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Paraguay eSIM for Asunción, the Jesuit missions, and the road to Iguazú
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Paraguay is the country the South American loop tends to cross rather than visit, on the bus between Bolivia and Brazil or the day trip from Iguazú, and it is the one country on that road the LATAM plan doesn't cover. The best eSIM for Paraguay is a Paraguay plan, added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the Bolt into Asunción and the bus to Encarnación are booked before the terminal's Wi-Fi asks for a password.
Below: how a Paraguay plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Asunción, the missions, and the Chaco, and which plan fits for the neighbors on either side.
A South American trip is usually long, and it usually crosses a border or two. KnowRoaming is built for that. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, then add a plan per trip: Paraguay now, the Global plan when a trip crosses continents, anywhere else after that. The eSIM stays; only the plan changes.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Paraguay, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Paraguay plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Paraguay plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Asunción's airport is about half an hour from the center, and Bolt and Uber both run in the capital with the number you already have; the buses cover the rest of the country cheaply and slowly from the main terminal. The guaraní is the currency, cards work in Asunción's hotels, malls, and restaurants, and cash covers the buses, the markets, and the towns.
The Palacio de López, the riverfront costanera, the Mercado 4, and the Loma San Jerónimo's painted streets are the capital's day; the country runs on tereré, the cold mate passed around every afternoon, and on a heat that pushes everything to the evening.
Paraguay is not on the LATAM plan, which covers Argentina, Brazil, and the rest of the route around it; a traveler on the LATAM plan loses data at the Paraguayan border in every direction. Paraguay is on the Global plan and is sold as its own plan; either one works here, added to the same eSIM as the plan covering the rest of the route. Read crossing into a border country your plan doesn't include before you cross.
Encarnación, five hours south, is the river beach on the Paraná and the base for the Jesuit missions at Trinidad and Jesús, both UNESCO sites with sound-and-light shows at night; Ciudad del Este in the east is the shopping city on the Brazilian border, the Itaipú dam's free tour, and the road to the Iguazú falls, about 45 minutes into Brazil or Argentina. Claro's and Tigo's 4G cover both towns and the highway between them.
Areguá's pottery and the Ypacaraí lake, and the Franciscan churches of Yaguarón and Capiatá, are the day trips from the capital, an hour each by bus with 4G the whole way; the country's own football, Olimpia and Cerro Porteño, is the Sunday, with tickets at the gate.
The Chaco, the dry scrubland that fills the western half of the country, is the Trans-Chaco highway to Filadelfia and the Mennonite colonies, and beyond them the parks toward Bolivia; the road has signal at the towns and long stretches with none, and the parks are offline on every network. The bus to Bolivia runs it overnight.
The Friendship Bridge into Brazil at Ciudad del Este, the Encarnación to Posadas crossing into Argentina, and the Chaco road into Bolivia are the three exits; Argentina and Brazil are on the LATAM plan, and Bolivia, like Paraguay, is on the Global plan only. The usual setup is a Paraguay plan for this leg and the LATAM plan for the rest, on the same eSIM; the phone switches by itself at the bridge once the other plan is on.
Your plan connects to Claro or Tigo on 4G LTE. There is no 5G on this plan. Coverage is strong in Asunción, Ciudad del Este, Encarnación, and the towns along the Ruta 1 and Ruta 2 highways. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
On the Trans-Chaco beyond Filadelfia, in the parks, and along the river's back roads, expect long stretches with no signal on any network. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Paraguay plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For South America the alternatives are your home carrier's roaming rate, often unavailable outside the capital; a local SIM that means paperwork, a local number, and a queue; or hostel Wi-Fi that is fine until you're on a bus. A Paraguay plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Global plan waiting if the trip grows.
