Yes. The Europe plan covers Greece and 48 other countries, including Turkey, Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Italy, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. Choose it over a Greece-only plan if a Turkish coast day or a Balkan leg is on the route. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Greece your plan connects to Vodafone or Nova, with 5G in the cities and main island towns and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
On the islands, yes, with 5G in the towns and 4G in the villages. On the ferries the signal fades between islands; book the crossing and download what you need before you sail.
Only on the Europe plan, which covers Turkey; a Greece-only plan stops at the port. If you're already in Greece on a Greece plan, add a Turkey plan to the same eSIM before you board.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Greece plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Greece eSIM for Athens, the islands, and the ferries between them
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Greece is ferries booked on the phone, Acropolis slots that sell out by breakfast, and islands where the taverna confirms by message, and the arrivals hall at Athens in August is the wrong place to start without data. The best eSIM for Greece is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the metro into town and tomorrow's boat to Naxos are booked before the bags arrive.
Below: how a Greece plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Athens, on the islands, and on the mainland, and why a trip that touches Turkey or the Balkans wants the Europe plan.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Greece now, Italy in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Greece, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Greece plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Greece plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Athens airport has a metro line to Syntagma in about 45 minutes and the X95 bus for the same route; tickets are sold at the machines and in the ATH.ENA app, and the metro takes a contactless card on the gates. Uber runs in Athens through licensed taxis, and FreeNow and Bolt are the alternatives. Greece uses the euro and takes cards nearly everywhere, with cash for the kiosks and the island tavernas that prefer it.
The Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, and the Ancient Agora sell timed tickets online, and the summer walk-up queue is the worst hour of the trip; book ahead on the phone, and go early.
Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, and Paros from Piraeus or Rafina; Crete by overnight ferry or a short flight; Corfu and the Ionians from the west coast; Rhodes and Kos in the Dodecanese: the ferries are the trip, and the Ferryhopper app and the operators' own sell out in July and August, so book the day before at least. On the islands, 5G reaches the main towns and ports, 4G the villages, and the beaches and the interiors of the smaller islands are for photos.
On the boats, the signal follows the coast and fades in the open channels between islands; download the next island's map and the hotel's directions before you sail.
Meteora's monasteries, four hours from Athens by train, and the Peloponnese's Nafplio, Mycenae, and Olympia are the mainland trips; Thessaloniki in the north is a city break of its own, with Halkidiki's beaches beyond it. The towns have 5G; the mountain roads of the Peloponnese and the Pindus drop out on every network.
From Kos, Rhodes, Chios, and Lesbos the Turkish coast is a short ferry, and from Thessaloniki the road runs north into North Macedonia and Bulgaria and west into Albania. Every one of them is on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself at the port or the border. A Greece-only plan stops at the coast, so for a trip that takes in Bodrum or the Balkans, the Europe plan is the better buy from the start. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Greek Easter, usually a week after the Western one, is the country's biggest holiday, with the islands' processions and the lamb on Sunday; August fills every ferry and room, and the 15th empties Athens as the city goes to the islands. May, June, September, and early October are the months the islands were made for, with the sea warm and the queues short.
Your plan connects to Vodafone or Nova, with 5G in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Patras, and the main island towns and 4G LTE across the villages and the mainland roads. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
On the ferries between islands, in the Pindus and Peloponnese mountains, and on the far beaches of the smaller islands, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in port.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Greece plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Greece plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
