Yes. The Europe plan covers Latvia and 48 other countries, including Estonia and Lithuania, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. Choose it over a Latvia-only plan for a Baltic loop. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Latvia your plan connects to LMT or Tele2, with 5G in the cities and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Only on the Europe plan, which covers all three Baltic states; a Latvia-only plan stops at the border. If you're already in Riga on a Latvia plan, add an Estonia or Lithuania plan to the same eSIM before you board.
Yes, with 5G or strong 4G in both towns. The Gauja valley's forest trails are the only thin spot.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Latvia plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Latvia eSIM for Riga, Jūrmala, and the Baltic road trip
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Riga is the Baltics' biggest city, an art nouveau capital with a bus from the airport that is bought in an app, and a country around it that is best seen by car or by the buses that link the three Baltic states. The best eSIM for Latvia is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the number 22 bus into the old town is paid for before the plane's doors open.
Below: how a Latvia plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Riga, on the coast, and in the countryside, and why a Baltic loop wants the Europe plan.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Latvia now, Estonia in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Latvia, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Latvia plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Latvia plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Riga's airport is about half an hour from the old town by the number 22 bus or a Bolt, which works with the number you already have; the trams, trolleybuses, and buses run on the Rīgas Satiksme app and the e-talons card. Latvia uses the euro and is close to cashless, with cards and phone wallets taken everywhere down to the central market's stalls.
The old town, the art nouveau streets of the Quiet Center, the central market in the zeppelin hangars, and the Freedom Monument are the walk; the National Library and the KGB museum sell tickets online.
Jūrmala's beach and wooden villas are about half an hour by train, Sigulda's castles and the Gauja valley an hour, and Rundāle palace a drive south; Cēsis's medieval center and the Kuldīga waterfall are the further trips. The towns have 5G or strong 4G, the Gauja's forest trails and the coast's empty stretches thin out.
Liepāja on the west coast, with its beach, its Karosta prison, and its music scene, and Daugavpils in the east with the Rothko center, are the further trips, each a train or bus from Riga with 5G in town and 4G on the road.
Tallinn is four hours by bus, Vilnius the same, and the Lux Express and Ecolines coaches run the Baltic corridor all day; Estonia and Lithuania are on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself at the border, so a Baltic loop fits it without any change in the app. Belarus, across the eastern border, is on the Europe plan with its own practical caveats. A Latvia-only plan stops at the border. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Jāņi, the midsummer festival on 23 and 24 June, empties Riga and fills the countryside with bonfires; the Christmas market in the Dome Square runs from late November, and the Song and Dance Festival every five years is the event the whole country plans around. Winter is dark and cold, with the old town under snow and the Daugava frozen.
Riga is a long-stay city for remote workers and students, with fast 5G, low rents by Northern European standards, and a café and coworking scene in the Quiet Center; for a stay of weeks, an unlimited plan, with 5 GB a day at full speed, covers calls and the hotspot, and fixed plans suit a weekend. Both are on the plan selector at the top of this page.
Your plan connects to LMT or Tele2, with 5G in Riga, Daugavpils, Liepāja, and Jelgava and 4G LTE across the towns and the coast. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the Gauja forests, the Latgale lake country, and on the empty coast, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Latvia plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Latvia plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
