ماذا يقول المسافرون ما هي الأسئلة الأكثر شيوعًا التي تطرحونها علينا؟
Yes. The Asia plan covers India and 27 other countries, including Thailand, Singapore, and Japan, and your phone switches networks by itself when you land. It does not cover Sri Lanka, Nepal, or Bhutan, which need their own plans. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In India your plan connects to Jio on 4G LTE, which handles maps, messaging, video calls, and streaming; 5G is not part of this plan. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Generally not; UPI needs an Indian bank account, and the visitor version is limited to a few airports. Pay by card where you can and carry cash. The plan keeps your bank app, the ride apps, and WhatsApp working over data.
Plan for it not to. Connectivity in both is restricted at times and foreign SIMs have historically not worked there, on any plan. Download maps and bookings before you fly in and confirm the current situation with your guesthouse.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your India plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

India eSIM for the Golden Triangle, Kerala, Goa, and the Himalaya
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

India runs on a phone more than most countries, from the ride to the hotel to the train ticket to the QR code at the chai stall, and the local SIM counter at the airport wants a passport photo and a form. The best eSIM for India is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the phone connects to Jio at Delhi or Mumbai and the Uber is booked before you reach the arrivals hall.
Below: how an India plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in the cities, on the trains, and in the mountains, and what changes when the trip continues to Nepal, Sri Lanka, or Bhutan.
Asian trips tend to be multi-stop, and most travel eSIMs want a fresh profile at every airport. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, then add a plan per trip: one country for a single-city break, the Asia plan when the route runs through several, and next year's trip on the same eSIM. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in India, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your India plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your India plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Delhi's airport has a metro express to the center; Mumbai's and Bengaluru's are a long ride in traffic, and Uber and Ola, both working with the number you already have, are the way from all three. Most visitors hold an e-visa arranged in advance; keep the confirmation saved offline. The rupee is the currency, cards work in hotels, malls, and the bigger restaurants, and cash covers the rest.
UPI, the QR payment system that India runs on, generally needs an Indian bank account; a prepaid version for visitors exists at some airports but is limited, so most travelers pay by card and carry cash. The plan keeps the bank app on data for the card approvals.
Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur are the classic first week, linked by trains booked on the IRCTC site or through the aggregator apps, with the Taj Mahal's tickets sold online and timed. Rajasthan's Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer extend it west; Varanasi is the other direction. Jio's 4G holds along the main rail corridors and in every city and town; the desert beyond Jaisalmer thins.
Kerala's backwaters, tea hills, and beaches, Goa's coast, and the temple cities of Tamil Nadu are the south, with domestic flights linking them to the north and the trains running along the coasts. The houseboats on the backwaters and the hill roads to Munnar drop the signal; the towns and the beaches have 4G. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai are the working cities, with the country's densest coverage.
Mumbai's Gateway, the Colaba cafés, and the Elephanta boat, and Kolkata's colonial center and Durga Puja in the autumn, are the two other metros most visitors add; both run on Uber, the local trains, and a phone that can read a QR menu.
Rishikesh, Dharamsala, Manali, and the treks beyond them are the mountains, with 4G in the towns and nothing above the last village. Ladakh and Kashmir are different: connectivity there is restricted at times and foreign SIMs have historically not worked, so plan those legs as offline regardless of plan and confirm the current situation with your guesthouse. The Andaman Islands need permits and have thin coverage beyond Port Blair.
India is on the Asia plan, 28 countries on one plan, and on the Global plan, but its neighbors are a patchwork: Nepal is not on the Global plan, Bhutan is on neither the Asia nor the Global plan, and Sri Lanka is on Global but not Asia. Each is added to the same eSIM for that leg. An India-only plan stops at every border. Read crossing into a border country your plan doesn't include before a route that leaves the plan's coverage.
Your plan connects to Jio on 4G LTE. There is no 5G on this plan. Coverage is strong in every city and town and along the main rail and road corridors, which in India is most of the country. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the high Himalaya, the Thar desert, the backwaters, and the islands, and wherever local restrictions apply, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding an India plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For Asia the alternatives are a home-carrier roaming pass that resets at every border, an airport SIM counter at each arrival, or hotel Wi-Fi that stops at the lobby. An India plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and one plan across every stop on the route.
