ماذا يقول المسافرون ما هي الأسئلة الأكثر شيوعًا التي تطرحونها علينا؟
No. Montenegro isn't on the Europe plan, and Croatia and Serbia plans stop at the border too. You need a Montenegro plan, or the Global plan, which includes Montenegro. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Montenegro your plan connects to m:tel or Telekom, with 5G on the coast and in Podgorica and 4G LTE inland. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after you arrive, work through the no-signal checklist.
Yes, if you want data in Montenegro. A Croatia plan and the Europe plan both stop at the border. Add a Montenegro plan to the same eSIM before you leave; it starts counting only when you connect inside the country, so a day trip uses one day.
In Žabljak, yes, on 4G. On the trails, in the canyon, and over the passes, not reliably, on any network. Confirm the rafting pickup by message the evening before and download the route.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Montenegro plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Montenegro eSIM for Kotor, Budva, Durmitor, and the drive from Croatia
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
Montenegro is the Adriatic's next bay along from Dubrovnik, a country of fjord-like inlets and mountain canyons that most visitors drive into from Croatia, and it is not on the Europe plan, which is why so many phones go quiet at the border. The best eSIM for Montenegro is a Montenegro plan, added before you cross or fly in, so Kotor's parking app and the Durmitor rafting are sorted while the queue at Debeli Brijeg moves.
Below: how a Montenegro plan works, how to set it up before you travel, why the Europe plan doesn't cover the country, and what to expect on the coast, in the mountains, and on the roads to Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, and Albania.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Montenegro now, Croatia in the spring, the Global plan when a trip crosses continents. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Montenegro, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Montenegro plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Montenegro plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Tivat's airport is minutes from the Bay of Kotor, Podgorica's an hour from the coast, and Dubrovnik's airport across the Croatian border is closer to Herceg Novi than either; the crossing at Debeli Brijeg backs up for an hour in summer. Rental cars are the way around, buses link the coast and the capital, and taxis are arranged by phone or the hotel; ride apps are limited.
Montenegro uses the euro without being in the EU, takes cards in the towns and the hotels, and prefers cash in the villages and at the konobas. Kotor's walls, the climb to St John's fortress, and the Perast boats to Our Lady of the Rocks are the first days.
Montenegro is not on the Europe plan. A Croatia plan, a Serbia plan, or the Europe plan all go quiet as you cross, and so does most home-carrier EU roaming. A Montenegro plan fixes that, and the Global plan includes Montenegro if you'd rather carry one plan for a longer trip. Add whichever you choose before you leave Dubrovnik or Belgrade; the border towns are the wrong place to discover you have no data. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for how plans on the same eSIM work together.
Budva's old town and beaches, Sveti Stefan's island hotel, Petrovac, and the long beach at Ulcinj near the Albanian border are the coast, busiest in July and August when the regional holidaymakers arrive; Lustica's Blue Cave and the Bay of Kotor's boat trips book online. m:tel's and Telekom's 5G cover the coast towns and 4G the coast road; the boats fade a mile out.
Durmitor's Black Lake and Bobotov Kuk, the Tara canyon's rafting, one of the deepest in the world, and the Đurđevića bridge are the north, three hours from the coast on roads that climb through the Morača canyon; Biogradska Gora and Prokletije are the wilder parks. Žabljak has 4G; the trails, the canyon, and the passes drop out on every network, and the rafting operators confirm by message the evening before.
Montenegro touches four countries, and the neat plan for the neighbors is different from the one for Montenegro itself: Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Albania are all on the Europe plan, so a Balkan road trip runs on the Europe plan everywhere except here, with a Montenegro plan added to the same eSIM for this leg. The phone switches by itself at each border once the right plan is on. Kosovo, across the eastern border, is on the Global plan only. Read crossing into a border country your plan doesn't include before you cross.
Your plan connects to m:tel or Telekom, with 5G in Podgorica, Kotor, Budva, Tivat, and Herceg Novi and 4G LTE along the coast road and in the inland towns. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the Tara and Morača canyons, on Durmitor's trails, and in Prokletije, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Montenegro plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Montenegro plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Global plan waiting if the trip grows.
