ماذا يقول المسافرون ما هي الأسئلة الأكثر شيوعًا التي تطرحونها علينا؟
Yes. The Europe plan covers the Netherlands and 48 other countries, including Belgium, Germany, and the UK, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. Choose it over a Netherlands-only plan if Antwerp, Brussels, or Cologne is on the route. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In the Netherlands your plan connects to KPN or Vodafone, with 5G across the whole country. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
No. Both are separate KnowRoaming destinations with their own plans and are on the Caribbean plan. Add the island's plan to the same eSIM before you fly.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Netherlands plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?
Yes, on every plan, fixed or unlimited. Tethering a laptop or a travel partner's phone counts against your plan's data the same way as use on your own phone. See tethering your laptop to a KnowRoaming eSIM.
Netherlands eSIM for Amsterdam, the trains, the bikes, and the borders
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
The Netherlands is a country where the train from the airport takes about 15 minutes, the museum ticket is timed, the bike is rented in an app, and some shops take only a debit card, and Schiphol's arrivals hall is the place to have a phone that already works. The best eSIM for the Netherlands is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the train to Centraal is tapped through and the Anne Frank House slot, booked weeks ago, is on the phone.
Below: how a Netherlands plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Amsterdam and beyond it, and why a trip that touches Belgium or Germany wants the Europe plan.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: the Netherlands now, Portugal in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in the Netherlands, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Netherlands plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Netherlands plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Schiphol's train station is under the terminal, with trains to Amsterdam Centraal in 15 to 30 minutes and to Rotterdam, Utrecht, and The Hague direct; a contactless bank card or phone now taps through the gates on every train, tram, and bus in the country, and the NS app sells the rest. Uber and Bolt run in the cities.
The Netherlands uses the euro and is close to cashless, but the twist is which card: many supermarkets and smaller shops take debit cards only, and a credit card can be refused at the till. Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Anne Frank House sell timed tickets online, and the last sells out weeks ahead.
Amsterdam is a bike city, and the rental shops and the shared-bike apps run on data; the canal cruises, the Heineken Experience, and the day trip to Zaanse Schans's windmills book online. KPN's and Vodafone's 5G cover the whole city, including the canal boats.
Rotterdam's architecture and its Markthal, Utrecht's canals and its Dom tower, The Hague's Mauritshuis and Scheveningen beach, and Delft's blue pottery are each under an hour by train. Keukenhof and the tulip fields near Lisse run from late March to mid-May, with timed entry online and a bus from Schiphol; Giethoorn's boat village and the Wadden islands are the further trips, with the ferries and the island bikes the thin spots.
Antwerp is an hour from Rotterdam, Brussels under two from Amsterdam, Düsseldorf and Cologne two and a half; Belgium, Germany, and the UK by Eurostar are all on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself at the border. A Netherlands-only plan stops at the border, so for a Benelux loop or a train onward, the Europe plan is the better buy from the start. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
King's Day on 27 April turns the whole country orange and fills every train; Amsterdam Pride in early August and the Christmas markets in Maastricht and Valkenburg are the other fixtures. One thing to know: Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten across the Atlantic are separate KnowRoaming destinations, on the Caribbean plan in the first two cases, and a Netherlands plan does not work in any of them.
Your plan connects to KPN or Vodafone, with 5G in every city and town and along every rail line; the Netherlands is flat, dense, and covered end to end. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
On the Wadden ferries, the islands' far beaches, and the polders' bike paths, expect the signal to thin. Save what you need in town.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a Netherlands plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Netherlands plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
