ماذا يقول المسافرون ما هي الأسئلة الأكثر شيوعًا التي تطرحونها علينا؟
Yes, both. The Caribbean plan covers the British Virgin Islands, the US Virgin Islands, and 23 other islands and destinations, and your phone switches networks by itself at the ferry dock. The BVI are not on the Global plan. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In the British Virgin Islands your plan connects to Flow on 4G LTE, which handles maps, messaging, video calls, and streaming; 5G is not part of this plan. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
At the marinas and most of the channel's anchorages, yes, on 4G, including the mooring apps. Toward Anegada and in the open water, the signal fades on any network. Book the moorings before you leave the anchorage.
On the Caribbean plan, yes at both ends, switching by itself at the dock; mid-channel the signal fades. A BVI plan starts working when you connect on the BVI side.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your British Virgin Islands plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
Yes, on every plan, fixed or unlimited. Tethering a laptop or a travel partner's phone counts against your plan's data the same way as use on your own phone. See tethering your laptop to a KnowRoaming eSIM.

British Virgin Islands eSIM for Tortola, the charter boats, and the Baths
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.
Already with us? Get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
The British Virgin Islands are the Caribbean's sailing capital, reached by a ferry from the US Virgin Islands or a small plane into Tortola, with a charter boat as the hotel and a beach bar as the office, and the ferry dock at Road Town is the place to have a phone that already works. The best eSIM for the British Virgin Islands is one that's ready before the boat docks, so the charter company's pickup and the mooring app are sorted while the customs line moves.
Below: how a British Virgin Islands plan works, how to set it up before you travel, what to expect on Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and the water, and which plan fits when the US Virgin Islands are the other half of the trip.
Island trips rarely stay on one island, and most travel eSIMs make you start over at every stop. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, then add a plan per trip: the British Virgin Islands this time, the whole Caribbean plan when you're hopping between islands, somewhere else entirely next winter. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in the British Virgin Islands, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your British Virgin Islands plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your British Virgin Islands plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Most visitors fly to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and take the ferry to Tortola's West End or Road Town, an hour with a customs check at each end; Beef Island's airport takes the regional flights. Taxis run on fixed rates, and the ferries and the charter boats do the rest. The US dollar is the currency, cards work at the marinas, the hotels, and the restaurants, and cash covers the beach bars and the ferries.
Road Town's marinas, Cane Garden Bay, and the Ridge Road are Tortola; Virgin Gorda's Baths, the granite boulders and pools at the island's tip, are the day trip by ferry, with timed entry in season; Anegada's flat reef and lobster are the far north. Flow's 4G covers the main islands' towns and anchorages; the water between them fades.
The bareboat and crewed charters out of Road Town and Nanny Cay are the reason most people come, with the mooring balls at Norman, Peter, Cooper, and Jost Van Dyke booked in an app that needs data at the anchorage; Flow's 4G reaches most of the Sir Francis Drake channel's anchorages and fades in the open water toward Anegada. The Soggy Dollar and the Willy T are the bars that book nothing and take cards.
The British Virgin Islands are on the Caribbean plan, 25 islands and destinations on one plan that also covers the US Virgin Islands across the channel and the rest of the chain; the phone switches networks by itself at the ferry dock. They are not on the Global plan, so a traveler carrying the Global plan needs a BVI plan or the Caribbean plan here. A BVI-only plan stops at the coast. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
December to April is the charter season, when the boats and the moorings book out and the Spring Regatta fills Nanny Cay in late March; June to November is hurricane season, when the charter companies and the ferries post changes to their apps first. The Full Moon parties at Trellis Bay and the Christmas winds are the other fixtures.
Your plan connects to Flow on 4G LTE. There is no 5G on this plan. Coverage is strong on Tortola and Virgin Gorda and reaches most of the channel's anchorages. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the open water toward Anegada, on the far side of Jost Van Dyke, and mid-channel, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need at the marina.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding a British Virgin Islands plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
On an island the alternatives are thin: a home-carrier roaming pass that treats every island as a new country, a local SIM from a shop that closes early, or resort Wi-Fi that stops at the pool. A British Virgin Islands plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Caribbean plan if the trip takes in more than one island.
