Yes. The Europe plan covers Iceland and 48 other countries, including Norway, Denmark, and the UK, and your phone switches networks by itself when you land. It does not cover the Faroe Islands or Greenland, which have their own plans. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Iceland your plan connects to Síminn or Nova, with 5G in the towns and 4G LTE along the Ring Road. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
On the Ring Road, nearly all of it, on 4G. In the highlands, on the F-roads, and on the glaciers, not reliably, on any network. Check the road-status app before each leg and download maps before the passes.
Yes, and that's the main use of it on a winter night: the aurora forecast, the cloud cover, and the road conditions all need data. Keep a power bank in a warm pocket; the cold drains the battery faster than the apps do.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Iceland plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Iceland eSIM for Reykjavík, the Ring Road, and the northern lights
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

Iceland is a country with no cash, a road that circles it, and weather that closes that road at an hour's notice, and the phone is how you know. The best eSIM for Iceland is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the Flybus from Keflavík is booked before the plane's doors open and the road-status app is loaded before the rental car is.
Below: how an Iceland plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Reykjavík, on the Ring Road, and in the highlands, and which plan fits when the Faroe Islands or Greenland is on the same trip.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Iceland now, Norway in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Iceland, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Iceland plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Iceland plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Keflavík is about 45 minutes from Reykjavík by the Flybus or a rental car, and nearly everyone rents: the Ring Road, the Golden Circle, and the south coast are drives. Iceland is close to cashless, with cards and phone wallets accepted everywhere including the remotest fuel pump, and the króna rarely needs to be touched.
Reykjavík's Hallgrímskirkja, the harbor, and the pools are the first day; the Blue Lagoon and the Sky Lagoon sell timed slots online that fill days ahead, and the northern-lights forecast and the road conditions both live in apps that need data to be useful.
The Ring Road runs 1,300 km around the island, a week's drive with the south coast's waterfalls, the glacier lagoon at Jökulsárlón, the east fjords, and Mývatn's geothermal north along the way. Síminn's and Nova's coverage is remarkably good for a country this empty: 5G in Reykjavík, Akureyri, and the towns, and 4G along nearly the whole Ring Road.
The gaps are the fjords' inner reaches, the passes in winter, and the interior. The rule for Iceland is to check the road-status app before every leg and to download the maps before the passes.
The highland F-roads to Landmannalaugar, Þórsmörk, and Askja open in summer only, need a 4x4, and cross rivers with no bridge; they are offline for long stretches on every network. Glacier walks, ice caves in winter, and the Laugavegur trek are guided and booked online, and the guides carry satellite devices for a reason. Save the route and the operator's number before you leave the Ring Road.
Iceland is on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan, and on the Global plan, so a trip that continues to Norway, Denmark, or the UK fits the Europe plan with the phone switching networks by itself when you land. The Faroe Islands and Greenland, both reachable from Reykjavík, are separate KnowRoaming destinations that are not on the Europe plan; the Faroes are on the Global plan and Greenland is not. Add the island's own plan to the same eSIM for that leg. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
The northern lights run from September to March, and the aurora and cloud-cover apps decide whether to drive out at midnight; winter days are short, the roads ice over, and the F-roads are shut. Summer brings the midnight sun, the highlands, the puffins, and the crowds, with every guesthouse on the Ring Road booked months ahead. Both seasons are made for a phone that works.
Your plan connects to Síminn or Nova, with 5G in Reykjavík, Akureyri, and the larger towns and 4G LTE along the Ring Road and the coasts. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the highlands, on the glaciers, and in the inner fjords, expect gaps on any network. Save what you need in town, and keep the phone warm; the cold drains it faster than the data does.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding an Iceland plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. An Iceland plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
