¿Qué viajeros? ¿Cuáles son las preguntas que más nos hacen?
No. Andorra isn't on the Europe plan, and Spain and France plans stop at the border too. You need an Andorra plan, or the Global plan, which includes Andorra. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Andorra your plan connects to STA, the national network, with 5G in the towns and resort bases and 4G LTE across the valleys. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after arriving, work through the no-signal checklist.
At the bases and on most of the pistes, yes; the resorts sit in populated valleys with good coverage. High ridges and off-piste routes can drop out, on any network, so keep the piste map downloaded.
Yes, if you want data in Andorra. A Spain plan and the Europe plan both stop at the border. Add an Andorra plan to the same eSIM before you leave; it starts counting only when you connect inside the country, so a day trip uses one day.
It depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying. A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (5 GB a day at full speed, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. Every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Andorra plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
If it's eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, yes, which covers most phones sold since 2019. The one-minute check for iPhone, Android, and Samsung is in is my phone eSIM compatible?

Andorra eSIM for ski weeks, shopping trips, and the drive from Barcelona
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

Andorra has no airport, no railway, and its own phone company, which is why so many visitors lose signal at the border: the plan that worked all the way up from Barcelona or Toulouse stops at the border. The best eSIM for Andorra is one that's already on the phone, so that the first thing you see in Andorra la Vella is 5G, not "No service."
Below: how an Andorra plan works, how to set it up before you travel, why the Europe plan doesn't cover the country, and what to expect on the slopes, on the shopping streets, and on the roads in and out.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Andorra now, France in the spring, the Global plan when a trip crosses continents. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Andorra, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you 5 GB a day at full speed, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Andorra plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Andorra plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap, by device, is in adding your eSIM on iPhone, adding your eSIM on Android, and adding your eSIM on Samsung, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Everyone arrives by road. Direct buses run from Barcelona airport and Barcelona Sants in about three hours, and from Toulouse in about the same, with a customs check at the border in each direction. Drivers come up the N-145 from La Seu d'Urgell on the Spanish side or through Pas de la Casa from France; both routes climb, and both get snow.
Andorra uses the euro and takes cards almost everywhere, from lift passes to the duty-free electronics on Avinguda Meritxell. The country is small enough that a car or the local bus lines reach every valley, and parking is run through apps in the towns.
Andorra is not in the European Union and is not on the Europe plan. A Spain plan, a France plan, or the Europe plan all go dark as you cross, and so does most home-carrier EU roaming. An Andorra plan fixes that, and the Global plan includes Andorra if you'd rather carry one plan for a longer trip. Add whichever you choose before you leave Barcelona or Toulouse; the border towns are the wrong place to discover you have no data. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for how plans on the same eSIM work together.
Grandvalira, with Soldeu, El Tarter, and Pas de la Casa, and Vallnord at Pal-Arinsal are the two ski areas; passes, lessons, and lift queues all live in apps, and the base stations have 5G. Caldea, the thermal spa in Escaldes, books online and fills on wet days.
In summer the same valleys turn into hiking country, including the Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley, a UNESCO site reached on foot. Signal drops on the high trails and passes, so download the route before you start. The shopping streets of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes are the other reason people come, and every shop takes a card.
Both roads into Andorra climb above 2,000 meters at some point, and in winter the police close them to cars without chains or winter tires when the snow comes. The live road status is online, which is the first reason to have data before you reach the mountains. The second is the tunnel: the Envalira tunnel bypasses the Pas de la Casa pass for a toll.
The other winter feature is the queue. Sunday evenings and the end of ski holidays back up at the Spanish border for an hour or more, with customs checking duty-free purchases against the allowances. A working phone tells you how long the queue is before you join it, and lets you pick a later dinner instead.
Andorra's public buses link the seven parishes along the two main valleys, from Sant Julià in the south through Andorra la Vella and Escaldes to Encamp, Canillo, and Soldeu, and up the other valley to La Massana, Ordino, and Arinsal. Timetables and the live positions are in the national bus app, and a working phone is the difference between catching one and waiting for the next.
In winter the ski resorts run their own shuttles from the towns to the lifts. Everything is close: the whole country is under 30 km end to end, and most journeys are about half an hour.
Your plan connects to STA, Andorra Telecom's network, with 5G in Andorra la Vella, Escaldes, and the ski resort bases and 4G LTE across the valleys. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
Coverage holds on the roads and in every town. It thins on the high ridges and in the summer hiking valleys, the same as on any network, so save maps before you climb.
Most phones sold since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later and most Android flagships from the same window. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, carrier-locked vs unlocked: how to tell shows you where to look.
Adding an Andorra plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. An Andorra plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Global plan waiting if the trip grows.
