One app, total control.
Manage your plans, your data and your eSIM from your phone, wherever you land.
What travelers ask us most?
Yes. The LATAM plan covers Brazil and 14 other countries, including Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Colombia, and your phone switches networks by itself at the border. Choose it over a Brazil-only plan if the Argentine side of Iguaçu or a flight to Buenos Aires is on the route. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Brazil your plan connects to Claro, with 5G in the state capitals and big cities and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Pix needs a Brazilian bank account, so most visitors can't. The plan keeps your card approvals, your ride apps, and your bank's app working over data, which is what you'll use instead; carry a little cash in reais for the beach and small towns.
In Manaus, Cuiabá, and the gateway towns, yes. In the forest, on the river, and at the lodges, no, on any network. Download maps and bookings before you go in and expect the phone to be a camera until you're back.
A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (a daily high-speed allowance, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. The price depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying; every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Brazil plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
Yes, on every plan, fixed or unlimited. Tethering a laptop or a travel partner's phone counts against your plan's data the same way as use on your own phone. See tethering your laptop to a KnowRoaming eSIM.
Brazil eSIM for Rio, São Paulo, and the long distances between
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

Brazil runs on Pix, ride apps, and domestic flights, and all three need a phone that works from the moment you clear immigration. The best eSIM for Brazil is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so that the Uber from Guarulhos or Galeão, the first card payment, and the next day's flight to somewhere three hours away are all handled on a phone that connected as the doors opened.
Below: how a Brazil plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Rio and São Paulo and on the way to Iguaçu, the Amazon, and the Pantanal, and which plan fits when Argentina or Uruguay is on the same trip.
A South American trip is usually long, and it usually crosses a border or two. KnowRoaming is built for that. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, then add a plan per trip: Brazil now, a LATAM plan the year the route runs through three countries, anywhere else after that. The eSIM stays; only the plan changes.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Brazil, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you a daily high-speed allowance, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM. Hotspot works on every plan, fixed or unlimited; a laptop or a travel partner's phone shares the same eSIM data.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Brazil plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Brazil plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap is in how to add your plan, start to finish, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Guarulhos is a long way from central São Paulo and Galeão a long way from Copacabana; Uber and 99 are the standard way in from both, booked from the arrivals hall with the phone number you already have. Congonhas and Santos Dumont, the downtown airports, handle the Rio to São Paulo shuttle. The São Paulo Metro and the Rio Metro are safe, fast, and card-friendly.
Paying is where the phone matters most. Pix, the instant QR payment system, is how Brazil pays, but it needs a Brazilian bank account; visitors use cards, which are accepted nearly everywhere, and carry a little cash in reais for beach vendors and small towns. The real is the currency and ATMs are plentiful in the cities.
Brazil is continental. Iguaçu, Salvador, Manaus, the Pantanal, and Florianópolis are each a domestic flight from the big cities, and the airlines' apps handle the check-in, the gate changes, and the delays that come with weather. Long-distance buses cover the rest and are comfortable enough for overnights.
Coverage is a city story. Claro's 5G reaches the state capitals and the big regional cities, and 4G the towns and highways; the Amazon beyond Manaus, the Pantanal lodges, and the Chapada trails are offline on any network. Download maps and bookings before those legs, and treat them as days without data.
At Iguaçu the Argentine side of the falls is a taxi ride from Foz do Iguaçu, and many itineraries continue to Buenos Aires or Montevideo. Argentina, Uruguay, and 12 more countries are on the LATAM plan, and the phone switches networks by itself at the border. A Brazil-only plan stops at the border, so for any trip that crosses one, the LATAM plan is the better buy from the start. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Carnival in February or March fills Rio, Salvador, and Recife months in advance, with the Sambadrome tickets, the bloco schedules, and the road closures all published online and changing daily. Football at the Maracanã or the Morumbi is bought through the clubs' apps, and the Réveillon fireworks on Copacabana draw millions on New Year's Eve. All of it is organized on the phone.
Rio and São Paulo are big cities, and the sensible habits are the same as anywhere: a ride booked in the app rather than hailed, the phone kept in a pocket rather than in hand on the street, and the route checked before you set off. A live map and a working ride app are what make those habits easy; a dead phone is what makes them hard.
Your plan connects to Claro, with 5G in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, and the other state capitals and 4G LTE across the towns and highways. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
In the Amazon, the Pantanal, and the national parks, expect no signal on any network beyond the last town. Save what you need before you fly in.
Most current iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Pixel phones support eSIM. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, the same check shows you where to look.
Keep your home number too
Adding a Brazil plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
One plan. No roaming surprises. Live the moment you land.
For South America the alternatives are your home carrier's roaming rate, often unavailable outside the capital; a local SIM that means paperwork, a local number, and a queue; or hostel Wi-Fi that is fine until you're on a bus. A Brazil plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a LATAM plan if the route crosses borders.
