Yes. The Europe plan covers Malta and 48 other countries, including Italy, and your phone switches networks by itself as the Sicily catamaran comes in. Details in does a region plan cover every country in it?
In Malta your plan connects to Epic or GO, with 5G across the main island and in Victoria on Gozo and 4G LTE elsewhere. Your phone joins the network automatically once the plan is switched on. If it hasn't connected a minute after landing, work through the no-signal checklist.
Yes, both, on the same plan: 5G in Victoria and 4G around Gozo, and signal at the Blue Lagoon on Comino with little beyond it. The boats fade a mile out.
On the Europe plan, at both ends and near either coast; mid-crossing the signal fades on any network. A Malta-only plan stops as you leave Maltese waters.
A fixed plan costs less overall; an unlimited plan (a daily high-speed allowance, then slower) works out to a lower daily rate the longer you stay. The price depends on how much data you want and how many days you're staying; every current option and price is in the plan selector at the top of this page.
In the app: open My plans, choose your Malta plan, and tap Top up. The extra data lands on the same eSIM within a few seconds, with nothing new to add or scan. Full steps are in topping up data without reinstalling the eSIM.
Weeks ahead. The plan's days don't start until you turn it on and connect, so a plan bought a month before departure is still complete when you land. Plans need to be activated within 90 days of purchase. See what plan validity means and when it starts.
It thins. On the boats to Comino and the Blue Grotto, on the dive sites, and on the Sicily catamaran mid-crossing, expect the signal to fade.
Malta eSIM for Valletta, the beaches, Gozo, and the ferry to Sicily
Set it up before you fly. It's live the moment you land, nothing to check, nothing to remember.

Malta is an island you cross by bus in an hour, with a capital that is a UNESCO site, a second island that is a ferry away, and summer crowds that make the timed ticket and the booked boat the difference between a good day and a queue. The best eSIM for Malta is the one added at home, on Wi-Fi, so the airport bus is paid in the app and the Blue Lagoon boat is booked before the plane's doors open.
Below: how a Malta plan works, how to set it up before you fly, what to expect in Valletta, on the coast, and on Gozo and Comino, and why a trip that touches Sicily wants the Europe plan.
Most travel eSIMs make you start over for every country, which in Europe means a new QR code every few days. KnowRoaming doesn't. You add the KnowRoaming eSIM, called KR.One, to your phone once, and from then on each trip is a plan you add to it: Malta now, Italy in the spring, the whole continent on a Europe plan when the itinerary gets ambitious. Nothing to scan again, nothing to delete when you get home.
The plan's days start when you turn it on and connect in Malta, not at checkout. Buy it weeks ahead, add it at home, and a delayed flight costs you nothing. The full rule is in what plan validity means and when it starts.
Choose a fixed plan for a set amount of data at the lowest overall price, or an unlimited plan when you'd rather not count. Unlimited plans give you a daily high-speed allowance, then a slower speed until the allowance resets the next day. If a fixed plan runs low, top up in the app and the extra data lands on the same eSIM. Hotspot works on every plan, fixed or unlimited; a laptop or a travel partner's phone shares the same eSIM data.
See it in two minutes: Meet KR.One, iPhone setup with KR.One, or Samsung setup with KR.One.
Do this at home on Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.
Before you leave
- Get the KnowRoaming app (available on iOS and Android) and choose your Malta plan.
- Tap Add. First time on this phone? The app adds KR.One and your Malta plan together. Already have KR.One? Only the plan is added, with nothing to scan.
- Leave data roaming off on the KnowRoaming line until you land, and turn it off on your home line too so it doesn't run up charges in the background. Steps are in turning off roaming on your home line.
When you land
- Turn the plan on in the app, then turn data roaming on for the KnowRoaming line. That setting lives in your phone, so the app can't flip it for you.
- Give the phone a minute to find the network. If nothing happens, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and off again.
Prefer a QR code? The checkout page and your confirmation email both carry one; scan it from your phone's settings. Every tap is in how to add your plan, start to finish, or watch the iPhone QR walkthrough or the Samsung QR walkthrough. Still no signal after landing? Work through the no-signal checklist.
Malta International at Luqa is 15 to 45 minutes from Valletta and Sliema by the express buses or a Bolt, which works with the number you already have; the Tallinja app and card run the island's buses, which reach everywhere and fill in summer. Malta uses the euro and takes cards nearly everywhere, with cash for the village festas and the odd kiosk.
Valletta's St John's Co-Cathedral, the Upper Barrakka gardens, and the Grand Harbour, the Three Cities across the water by dghajsa, and Mdina's silent streets are the first days; the Hypogeum sells a handful of timed tickets a day, weeks ahead, online.
Golden Bay and Għajn Tuffieħa in the north-west, the Blue Grotto boats in the south, and the swimming ledges at St Peter's Pool are the coast; the Blue Lagoon on Comino is the boat trip everyone takes, booked online and crowded by ten. Epic's and GO's 5G cover the whole main island; the boats fade a mile out and Comino has signal at the lagoon and little beyond.
Gozo is a short ferry from Ċirkewwa, or the fast ferry from Valletta, and a slower island: the Citadel at Victoria, the Ġgantija temples, the Xlendi and Marsalforn coasts, and the diving at Dwejra. The Malta plan covers Gozo with 5G in Victoria and 4G around the island; the ferry itself keeps signal most of the crossing.
Gozo's Ta' Pinu basilica, the salt pans at Xwejni, and the Ramla Bay beach fill a second day; the Comino boats from Gozo's Mġarr harbor are quieter than the ones from Malta's Ċirkewwa.
The catamaran to Pozzallo in Sicily takes an hour and three quarters, and Sicily is Italy, on the Europe plan, 49 countries on one plan that switches networks by itself as the boat comes in; a Malta and Sicily week fits it without any change in the app. Malta is also on the Global plan. A Malta-only plan stops at the coast. Read do I need a new plan for every country? for the detail.
Every village has a festa between May and September, with fireworks over the parish church and the band clubs open late; the Isle of MTV in July and the Notte Bianca in October are the capital's nights. Malta is also a long-stay island for language students and remote workers, with 5G across the island and a nomad residence permit; for a stay of weeks, an unlimited plan, with a daily high-speed allowance, covers the calls and the hotspot.
Your plan connects to Epic or GO, with 5G across the main island and in Victoria on Gozo and 4G LTE around Gozo's coast. Your phone picks the network automatically once the plan is on; there is nothing to choose by hand.
On the boats to Comino and the Blue Grotto, on the dive sites, and on the Sicily catamaran mid-crossing, expect the signal to fade. Save what you need on shore.
Most current iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Pixel phones support eSIM. Check yours before you add a plan; it takes a few seconds. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID or Available SIM. On Android, go to Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs and look for an option to add an eSIM. On Samsung, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you're not sure, the same check shows you where to look.
Keep your home number too
Adding a Malta plan doesn't touch your regular SIM. Calls and texts on your usual number keep working exactly as before. The new plan handles data while you're there, and most phones run both at once without you doing anything else. Bank codes and two-factor texts still arrive on your home number, as long as that line stays switched on.
One plan. No roaming surprises. Live the moment you land.
For a European trip the real competition isn't another eSIM. It's your home carrier's roaming add-on, priced for a weekend and throttled by midweek; the SIM counter in arrivals, after the flight, with a queue; and café Wi-Fi, in a country where even the bus ticket is in an app. A Malta plan added at home beats all three: one price agreed before you fly, live the second you land, and a Europe plan waiting if the trip grows.
Real travelers rate KnowRoaming 4.5 out of 5 on Reviews.io. More than a decade in travel connectivity, more than 200 destinations, and support that doesn't clock off: WhatsApp and live chat, any time, any day.

憧れの旅行先、 リアルタイムデータ。
We have used KnowRomaing for at least the last two years for multiple trips abroad, mainly in Europe. The first time we used it I had an issue that it would not work even though I had installed it. The help desk on What's App was awesome and very responsive. They quickly figured out my phone was locked by cell service provider. They gave me instructions on contacting my provider to unlock the phone and after that evertying worked as advertised. I have recommended KnowRoaming to multiple friends.

Works well, had no issues abroad.

Very good coverage for Istanbul. Just wish we able to carry over unused data and not have it expire.
