Two-factor authentication and account security

Turn on two-factor authentication under Account settings > Security. Choose an authenticator app over SMS if you can; codes made on your phone don't depend on your home line having signal abroad. Save the backup codes when you set it up. They're what gets you in if the second factor doesn't arrive.

Steps

  1. Open the KnowRoaming app, or sign in on knowroaming.com, and go to Account settings.
  2. Tap Security, then turn on Two-factor authentication.
  3. Choose a method. An authenticator app is more reliable while traveling than SMS to your home number.
  4. Save the backup codes somewhere you can reach without your phone.

Good to know

  • Signing in with Google or Apple already carries that account's own protection. See Sign in with Google or Apple.
  • Locked out and the second factor won't arrive? Use a backup code. If you didn't save them, message us on WhatsApp at +1-888-357-7347 with the email on your account and an order number. We'll verify you another way.
  • SMS codes for any service go to your home number, and the home line has to be on. See Two-factor codes not arriving while abroad.
  • Your plan is data only, with no phone number, calls, or SMS. Calls and texts keep using your home number.
